Gibson Custom Shop Collector’s Choice #10 Tom Scholz ’68 Les Paul Standard Reissue

In 2013, Gibson’s Custom Shop launched the Collector’s Choice #10, a meticulous reissue of the iconic 1968 Les Paul Standard used by Tom Scholz, legendary guitarist of Boston. Faithfully recreated through precise 3D scans of Scholz’s original instrument, this model captures the distinctive tone, aesthetics, and modifications of the guitar that defined an era of classic rock hits.

Finished in Antique Natural, the Collector’s Choice #10 boasts a solid mahogany body paired with a two-piece carved maple top. The neck is a single piece of mahogany with a long tenon, and of course capped with a rosewood fingerboard. Scholz’s signature modifications are replicated, including a DiMarzio Super Distortion humbucker in the bridge and a Gibson P-90 in the neck position, providing both smoothness and aggression.

The hardware stays true to the original with Schaller M6 tuners, lightweight aluminum tailpiece and ABR-1 bridge. With only 300 units produced, this limited-edition guitar is a serious collector’s item. Its impeccable craftsmanship and period-correct appointments make it both a tribute to Scholz’s artistry and a remarkable slice of rock history.

This guitar includes its original hardshell case, certificate of authenticity, and case candy, making it an investment-worthy piece for collectors. It is like new except a small line on back that looks like stand burn, a common occurrence on all-nitro finish instruments. The guitar is very resonant and plays great, with jumbo frets that are also like new.
