Gibson SG Zoot Suit Rainbow 2009

The Gibson SG Zoot Suit is one of the boldest and most distinctive guitars Gibson has ever produced. Introduced in 2009 as a limited-run model, the Zoot Suit SG was designed to push the boundaries of both aesthetics and construction.

Unlike traditional SGs, which are typically made from mahogany, the Zoot Suit series is built from multiple layers of dyed birch wood, laminated together in a striking pattern. The Rainbow finish is the most popular in the Zoot Suit series, and showcases an eye-catching spectrum of colors that makes each guitar visually unique.

The name “Zoot Suit” is a nod to the flamboyant, multicolored suits popularized in the 1940s, mirroring the guitar’s bold and layered appearance. The construction method of pressing together thin, colored birch sheets and then carving the SG’s iconic double-horned body shape results in an extremely dense and resonant instrument. This contributes to a bright, cutting tone, distinct from more traditional SG models.

The 2009 SG Zoot Suit features a set-in maple neck, offering stability and sustain, along with an ebony fretboard for smooth playability. The guitar is equipped with a pair of Gibson’s high-output 496R (neck) and 500T (bridge) ceramic humbuckers, known for their aggressive response and strong midrange presence.

This particular SG Zoot Suit is in excellent condition with only minor playwear. It has a new bone nut, minimal fretwear, volume and tone knobs changed, but otherwise is all original. It comes with the original Gibson gig bag.
