Gretsch 7593 White Falcon 1994

The Gretsch 7593 White Falcon is part of the first generation of high-end Gretsch guitars produced after the company returned to family control. Fred and Dinah Gretsch reacquired the business in the mid-1980s, and after several years of development the first new Gretsch guitar range appeared in late 1989. The 1994 7593 therefore belongs to the early Japanese-made revival period, several years before the manufacturing and distribution agreement with Fender that began in 2003.

The White Falcon itself dates back to 1955 and was conceived as Gretsch’s top-of-the-range hollowbody. The 7593 designation identifies the single-cutaway White Falcon fitted with a Bigsby vibrato, a model number that had previously been associated with the single-cut Falcon during the Baldwin period.

This 1994 version uses the large 17-inch-wide hollow laminated-maple body associated with the model, with a 2 3/4-inch body depth and a 25.5-inch scale. The neck is maple with an ebony fingerboard, large pearloid block inlays and extensive gold sparkle binding. Other typical Falcon details include the bound headstock with horizontal Gretsch logo, gold hardware, gold Falcon pickguard and Bigsby vibrato. Period 7593 specifications also document an Adjustamatic roller bridge and enclosed tuning machines.

The two Filter’Tron humbuckers are particularly characteristic of this period. Gretsch’s 1990s Filter’Trons used ceramic magnets, while the more vintage-style alnico High Sensitive Filter’Trons arrived with later revisions. The controls comprise individual pickup volumes, master volume, master tone and a three-way pickup selector.

This example has standard playwear, including some belt-buckle scratching on the back. The gold hardware has the usual tarnishing associated with age and use. The frets are quite low but still play well. Original hardshell case included; the case is quite worn but remains fully functional. The original warranty document is also included.
