Gretsch G6128CS 59 Duo Jet Masterbuilt Champagne Sparkle 2012

The Gretsch Duo Jet was introduced in 1953 and became one of the company’s most important electric models. Although it shares the single cut outline of other early solidbody guitars, the Duo Jet has its own construction and feel, with a chambered mahogany body that gives it a lighter, more open response than a fully solid guitar. Early Duo Jets were used by players such as Cliff Gallup, Hank Garland and George Harrison, and the model remains one of the core Gretsch designs.

This G6128CS ’59 Duo Jet Masterbuilt was made in 2012 by the Gretsch Custom Shop by Stephen Stern. It is based on late-50s Duo Jet specifications, with a chambered mahogany body, maple top, set mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard. The Champagne Sparkle top, aged white binding, multi-line purfling and black plexi pickguard give it a classic Jet look with a more unusual – and massively fabulous – Custom Shop finish.

The electronics follow the Filter’Tron Duo Jet layout, with two Gretsch Filter’Tron humbuckers, individual pickup volumes, master volume, 3-way pickup selector and 3-way tone switch. Hardware includes a Rocking Bar bridge, Bigsby vibrato and Gotoh open gear tuners. The 625 mm scale length, C-profile neck, 42.8 mm nut width and 254 mm fingerboard radius keep it close to traditional Gretsch feel.

The guitar is in excellent condition with light playwear on the top and pickguard, and light buckle wear on the back. A previous owner has glued the bridge base in place. It comes with hardshell case in great condition with only minor marks, certificate of authenticity, booklets, hangtag and case candy. Weight is 3900g.
