Gibson J-45 Studio Walnut Sunburst

First introduced in 1942, the J-45 became known as “The Workhorse” for its straightforward design and understated appearance. It went on to become Gibson’s best-selling acoustic guitar model and one of the most widely recorded acoustic guitars in history.

The updated J-45 Studio Walnut is handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, using all-solid tonewoods. It has a Sitka spruce top finished in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, combined with walnut back and sides finished in satin nitrocellulose lacquer. Walnut gives the guitar a balanced, warm and rich tonal character, with slightly more emphasis in the bass and treble than a traditional mahogany J-45, while remaining less pronounced in those areas than a rosewood version.

The utile neck has Gibson’s Advanced Response profile and a walnut fingerboard. Grover Rotomatic tuners, a walnut belly-up bridge and TUSQ saddle and bridge pins complete the hardware.

For amplified use, the J-45 Studio Walnut is fitted with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze active under-saddle piezo pickup with a soundhole-mounted volume control. A modern hardshell case is included.
