The 1961 Höfner 191 double neck guitar is a super rare and really fascinating instrument, part of Höfner’s illustrious line of multi-neck guitars. The 191 was designed for players who needed access to both standard and bass guitar necks in one instrument, making it a distinctive piece in the world of vintage guitars.
The model evolved over time, with early versions featuring subtle changes to hardware and electronics. Höfner, known for their craftsmanship, ensured that the 191 double necks were high-quality instruments, attracting players who valued both form and function.
While the Höfner 191 was not as widely played as some other models, it garnered a niche following, including artists who appreciated its versatility for studio work and live performances.
This 1961 example has lovely natural wear. It is all original, except from some marks around the bridge on the guitar side, commonly referred to as “snakebite” marks, suggests a tremolo unit may have been installed at some point. The original case is included, though it’s in rough condition, but still fully functional.
